The Katarina Witt Foundation on Athletic Sponsorship

The fascination with sports binds people from all generations and cultures in the world. As an active participant, testing one’s limits, or getting all riled up as a spectator at a competition, these are each deep-seated personal experiences with a high social relevance. This is because, with a commitment to fair play, the competitive situation in sports is also a bridge, which allows people from every culture who have the same goals and values to come together.

Further Advancement of Athletic Sponsorship

Katarina Witt impressed the international athletic community by becoming the most successful woman figure skater in history, with two olympic gold medals, four world championship titles, and six European championship titles. In her experience, talent is the basis for success, but only with maximal commitment on the side of the athlete, and much encouragement from the trainer can one reach the top. Today, the artist, T.V. presenter, and business woman would like to reach out and help by improving far-reaching and continuous advancement in this area. To this effect, she wants to leave a mark by contributing to the accessibility of sports for kids.

Competitive Sports for People with Disabilities

The Katarina Witt Foundation assumes partial responsibility for the future of competitive sports by athletes who, despite a physical disability, would like to train and compete to the extent of their potential. In so-called sports for the disabled, new levels are meanwhile being reached which are considered to be unattainable in most competitions between non-disabled athletes.

The spectators are astounded at what these athletes are capable of. This would explain why the Paralympics are currently the second largest athletic event in the world.

The German Government raised no doubts about the fact that equal opportunities for talent was understood to be one of the groundstones for their athletic funding, and they support the German Sports Association for the Disabled. There are also many talented boys and girls in Germany who are ready to give their all for their sport. Kids who are enthusiastic about sports should have the opportunity to reach their full potential and develop self-confidence through that commitment. Kids with limited mobility are often met with barriers in school, and special options in sport clubs are still praiseworthy exceptions.

Sponsors and Advocates Unite

The Katarina Witt Foundation would like to encourage and support these kids so that they can discover their athletic potential.

Often, however, the structural and financial requirements for long-term professional training are not met.

The Katarina Witt Foundation would like to join sponsors and advocates in actively seeking talent and bolstering up more effective and consistent funding.
